My Last Day

Today was my last class for a while at the Texas Komei Jyuku dojo. Bushey Sensei had a pretty big surprise for me, and it was letting me lead the entire class by myself. The catch was that all the students were going to act awful. It was basically like trying to teach swordsmanship to ten people with severe Attention Deficit Disorder. The students would try to follow my instructions and everyone had different mistakes.

A few weeks ago Bushey Sensei gave me some great advice: not to correct everything, just bring up one or two points and move on. I applied this tactic during class tonight and it worked really well. Everyone was doing everything completely wrong, but I was able to fix a few things here and there. The exercise really prepared me for what could potentially be waiting for me as a sword teacher in Austin.
